The longer I photograph the more I appreciate simple, beautiful portraits, without being overlay dramatic, emotional or otherwise too fabricated. Not that I would give up on the latter, but I really want to extend my portfolio of “straight” portraits of various sorts. Now, for me it is much easier to find models to shoot “model pictures” than to find interesting fascinating faces for portraits – probably due to my friend’s list being full of models and “their” photographers. A first few takes of straight portraits of interesting faces and people we found are posted here. I will continue to try to find and shoot interesting and beautiful people (…suggestions are welcome!). Lily, actress and model, is one of them. She was kind enough to meet with us one Sunday morning in Antwerp for a little portrait session. Thanks to Butcher’s Coffee for the excellent coffee and hospitality.

Mamiya RZ67 / Portra 400 / TMAX 400 – some of the black and white’s are shot with a blue filter. Colour images processed and scanned by Carmencita Film Lab.

This is one of my favorite recent set of images you’ve done. The black and white in particular are magnificent.
